- The Passwords app in iOS 27 will automatically change weak and compromised passwords for you
- Feature Enhancement Based on Gemini-Backed Apple Intelligence Update
- Apple shares fell 1.9% the day after WWDC 2026
Apple is set to introduce a major improvement to its Passwords app in iOS 27, allowing the native password manager to now be able to automatically change compromised passwords instead of simply warning users about potential breaches.
The Passwords app has already warned users about passwords that have turned up in a breach or potentially weak passwords, such as reused login details, but the upcoming software also promises to automatically fix them.
Using AI, Apple promises to automatically navigate password change websites, generate new passwords, and update those credentials within the app, although it’s worth noting that it only works on eligible and supported platforms.
Apple Passwords app will soon automatically update passwords for you
Announced at the company’s annual software keynote at WWDC 2026, Apple explained that the system uses Apple Intelligence to complete the process, an underlying feature that was also updated at the event.
Upcoming versions of Apple Intelligence, which process requests on the device or securely through Private Cloud Compute, will be powered by new models based on Google’s Gemini.
The update will make changing passwords less complicated, because physically changing them is often a source of friction for affected users.
However, the minor improvements to the Passwords app generally reflect the entire WWDC experience, with Apple focusing on the three core pillars of platform improvements, trust and security, and Apple Intelligence this year, ruling out any radical software changes.
Share prices have fallen about 1.9% since the announcement, reflecting broader disappointment around this year’s software announcements.
