Real Madrid have issued a notable official statement confirming that their club record €150m (£129m/$173m) bid for Julián Álvarez has been rejected by rivals Atlético Madrid. The extraordinary announcement finally reveals the true identity of the mysterious Galáctico that the club’s president, Florentino Pérez, promised to sign after his recent re-election campaign.
The Real Madrid statement confirms Álvarez’s offer
Following mounting speculation, Real Madrid took the unusual step of publishing a formal announcement today regarding their transfer business. The club has confirmed that it has seen a monumental €150 million proposal for Álvarez rejected by Atlético.
The club’s official statement said: “Real Madrid CF announces that, after the Board of Directors meeting held today, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julián Álvarez. After reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club Atlético de Madrid has appreciated the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between both clubs, and has rejected it, alluding to the player’s termination clause.”
Pérez fulfills his galactic promise

The bold move comes immediately after Perez was re-elected as club president on Sunday, after defeating rival Enrique Riquelme. During his campaign, the 79-year-old pledged to spend big on an important goal.
Before the revelation, Perez told Spanish TV show Horizonte: “On Tuesday or so I’m going to make an offer to a big Champions League club for a big player. It would be the biggest transfer that Real Madrid has paid in their history. We’re going to make a big offer, at least around €150 million. It needs to be a midfielder who can advance. And it’s not Haaland. The player is not from the Premier League. And the first thing we’ll do is talk to him. It’s a signing destined to generate excitement, because that’s what it’s all about, generating excitement.”
Rival Interests and Release Clause Complications
Despite identifying their main objective, Los Blancos face significant obstacles. The Argentine striker was initially thought to have a €500m (£431m/$577m) release clause in his contract with Atlético. However, reports indicate that his deal contains provisions for certain Champions League teams, which could allow them to secure his services for around €150 million.
Real Madrid are not the only European power pursuing the prolific attacker, with Barcelona reportedly having a €100 million bid rejected last week. For its part, the Santiago Bernabéu team has also confirmed the departure of the first team coach, Álvaro Arbeloa. They issued a separate statement expressing their gratitude to the manager, which subsequently paved the way for Jose Mourinho to make a sensational return.
What’s next for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid must now decide whether to return with an improved offer or activate the release clause to force Atlético to make a sale. With Mourinho apparently set to take the managerial reins, the club will desperately want to complete the rebuild of its squad. While Pérez remains determined to bring a new superstar to the Bernabeu, fans can expect another massive bid very soon.
