A proposal to increase the salaries and benefits of Parliament members (parliamentarians) to coincide with those of the federal secretaries has been approved by the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, said Express News.

After approval, a summary was sent to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for additional review. According to sources within the Secretariat of the Assembly, the monthly salary and the benefits for the members of the National Assembly (MNA) and the senators will be established in 519,000 Pakistani rupees.

These recommendations have been sent to Prime Minister Sharif for approval. The measure occurs after a demand of 67 members of the Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) party for an increase in its salary.

Other political parties, including the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League, Nawaz (PML-N), also supported salary increases. After approval, parliamentarians will enjoy facilities equivalent to those of federal secretaries.

While some parliamentarians had requested a monthly salary of 1 million rupees, President Ayaz Sadiq rejected this demand. The Finance Committee, as part of the 2024-2025 financial budget, received the authority to decide on salary increases for parliamentarians.
