One analyst has unfinished business with a specific region of golf fans after the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills last week.
Golf Channel’s Eamon Lynch believes a golf pro should never encounter Long Island, New York again after seeing what unfolded at one of the country’s historic courses in Shinnecock Hills during the US Open.
“Long Island golf fans are a stain on the game of golf,” Lynch said during a segment Monday after Wyndham Clark’s second career US Open victory.

Lynch continued to unload on Long Islanders who attended the event, saying they “don’t deserve” to see another major at any of their historic courses, including Bethpage Black, which hosted last year’s Ryder Cup.
Clark was at the center of Lynch’s argument as authorities had to eject patrons from Shinnecock Hills on Sunday after booing the US Open leader. Fans were heard shouting, “Don’t strangle Wyndham” and “get in the bunker” during their final round.
“This is not a New York problem,” Lynch added. “It doesn’t happen in Winged Foot, it doesn’t happen in Baltusrol across the Hudson River. It happens on Long Island every time.”

As of now, the PGA of America has the PGA Championship lined up for Bethpage Black in 2033.
On that same field, Rory McIlroy and other members of Team Europe were subjected to taunts and boos that disrupted the Ryder Cup last summer. McIlroy was even seen stepping away from the ball to joke with one of the hecklers, while others, including his friend Shane Lowry, were also quick to respond.
Then, during Team Europe’s victory on American soil, McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, had a beer thrown at her while walking on the field.

“I don’t think we should accept that in golf,” McIlroy said at the time. “I think golf should be held at a higher level than what was seen this week.”
While nothing of the sort was seen during the four rounds of the US Open last week, Lynch still believes Long Island golf fans have been too “repetitive” and “predictable” to allow high-stakes tournaments to be played there in the future.
“It’s the drunk crypto bros that buy a ticket with dad’s credit card,” Lynch said, even adding that some of the fans have been privileged in their lives to the point that they have been privileged “without being arrested for something they said.”
Is there any solution? Lynch believes Augusta National Golf Club is right for the Masters.
“Maybe golf as a whole needs to adopt the August National model,” he said. “No phones, no tolerance, no second chances.”
Shinnecock Hills saw Clark become something of a villain among the crowd despite leading the pack throughout the tournament. He has a history of throwing clubs and was notoriously kicked out of Oakmont during the 2025 US Open after damaging two lockers inside the clubhouse out of frustration. But despite Clark’s misdeeds on and off the course, the decorum of being a golf patron, especially in a major championship, is paramount.
Lynch feels those on Long Island are not doing the same.
