Sindh will add 50 double-decker electric buses and 500

Sharjeel Memon says new buses will improve public transport as land is identified for depots

Sindh Chief Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday said the government was adding 50 double-decker buses and 500 new electric (EV) buses to the transport system, which will bring significant improvement to the province’s public transport.

The chief minister on Saturday chaired a key meeting on land allocation for bus stations and transport plan for various public transport projects. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioners of Malir, Korangi, Karachi Central and Karachi West, and senior officials of relevant departments.

Officials briefed the minister on land requirements for public transport projects, including parking and operational facilities for buses. Availability of government land in different districts, proposed sites and future needs were reviewed to identify suitable locations for bus stations.

On the occasion, Memon directed officials to immediately complete the identification and allocation of suitable land for bus stations. He also directed all deputy commissioners to identify vacant government land in their respective districts for establishment of modern bus stations for public transport projects.

“Timely availability of adequate warehouses and operational infrastructure is essential for the success of these projects,” he said, adding that all relevant institutions should complete land identification and other necessary arrangements as soon as possible through mutual coordination.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Sindh government to provide modern, comfortable, eco-friendly and world-class travel facilities to the citizens. He said the government aims to get the new buses on the roads for public service as soon as possible and the ongoing projects in the public transport sector will bring revolutionary changes to the province’s transport system.
