IHC summons AGP in the case of missing persons

Islamabad:

A larger bank of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) on Thursday called to the Pakistan Attorney (AGP) on March 6 in a case related to missing persons, saying that there was no progress on the side of the government in this persistent matter.

Directing the bank, the judge of IHC, Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, commented that it was the responsibility of the government and the agencies of application of the law to respond to the families of the missing persons. He added that the State had failed to rescue people, since the case was from where it began.

Judge Kayani declared that the case belonged to the violation of human rights and was creating a bad image of the country internationally. He added that the court was trying to end the problem of missing persons, but the matter would end only when all missing persons were recovered.

During the audience, the bank asked if there was any recovery of a missing person since the last hearing of the case. In response, the additional attorney general (AAG) Munawwar Iqbal Duggal and a representative of the Ministry of Defense expressed their lack of consciousness.

AAG Duggal asked the Court to allow the government to inform the court on progress. However, the lawyer of the families of missing persons, the lawyer Iman Mazari, opposed more time for the government, emphasizing that the court should determine those responsible.

Sitting at the bank, Judge Arbab Muhammad Tahir said that measures were being taken to determine those responsible for missing persons. Mazari said that the AGP previously gave guarantees that there would be no forced disappearances, but their guarantees were repeatedly violated.

Judge Kayani commented that the State had not rescued people. He asked if there was any data that showed that a missing person had died in a terrorist attack. In addition, he commented that the investigation commission of missing persons and the federal government were not doing anything.

Judge Kayani said that the operations against Fitna al-Khawarij continued daily, that they were commendable, and added that it was the fact that if there were no law enforcement agencies, “we cannot protect themselves at all.”
