A man who had recently brought his family back to Pakistan of the United States confessed that he killed to kill his teenage daughter, motivated by his disapproval of his Tiktok content, said Pakistani police.

The incident took place on Tuesday in Quetta, the capital of the province of Baluchistan.

The suspect, identified as Anwar Ul-Haq, initially told the authorities that unidentified armed men had killed their daughter, but then admitted the crime, police officer Babar Baloch confirmed.

“Our research suggests that the family disapproved of their dressing, social activities and lifestyle,” said Senior Zahaib Mohsin researcher. He added that the authorities are considering all angles, including the possibility of honor murder.

Haq, who has American citizenship, had recently moved his family to Pakistan after spending 25 years in the United States. According to the police, he opposed the Tiktok content of her daughter, which she had begun to publish while living in the United States and continued after her return to Pakistan.

Haq’s brother -in -law was also arrested in relation to murder.

Police said the suspect has been formally accused of murder. However, they did not provide documentation of their American citizenship, stating that this was based on their own testimony. They also refused to confirm whether the US authorities had been informed.

The victim’s family has not responded to requests for comments.

Pakistan, a country with 241 million people, has more than 54 million Tiktok users. However, the application has faced multiple prohibitions in recent years due to the content considered “obscene” by the authorities.

The government has often pressed to the platform to eliminate certain publications, citing concerns about social values.

The case has revived debates about the so -called honor murders in Pakistan, where more than 1,000 women are killed annually by family members for perceived transgressions, according to the Pakistan Human Rights Commission.

These incidents often involve activity in social networks, personal relationships or challenging conservative norms.
