A Pakistan army soldier embraced martyrdom and 12 terrorists were killed in an intelligence -based operation (IBO) in the Waziristan district of the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said on Thursday the wing of military media.
A Public Relations Declaration between Services (ISPR) said: “From February 5 to 6, security forces carried out an intelligence -based operation in the general area Hassan Khel, Northern Wazirist district about Khwarij’s informed presence “
“During the performance of the operation, the troops themselves effectively compromised Khwarij’s location and it turned out that 12 khwarij were sent to hell,” added the ISPR.
However, during the exchange of fire, Lance Naik Muhammad Ibrahim, 34, a resident of the Hagu district “fought gallantly” and was martyred.
“Weapons and ammunition also recovered from the killed Khwarij, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces, as well as the objective death of innocent civilians.”
Disinfection operations were being carried out to eliminate any other terrorist, added the army’s media wing.
“Pakistan security forces are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers even more strengthen our resolution,” he concluded.
The operation is part of an effort against sustained terrorism, since the country witnessed an increase in violent attacks since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in the border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan.
The country witnessed a strong increase in terrorist attacks in January 2025, increasing by 42% compared to the previous month, according to data published by the Institute of Conflicts and Security Studies of Pakistan (PETs), a group of experts.
The data revealed that at least 74 militant attacks were recorded throughout the country, which resulted in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians and 36 militants. Another 117 individuals suffered wounds, including 53 security forces, 54 civilians and 10 militants.
KP remained the worst affected province, followed by Baluchistan. In the established districts of KP, the militants carried out 27 attacks, which resulted in 19 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians and two militants.
The tribal districts of KP (former Fata) witnessed 19 attacks, which led to 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians and 25 militants.
Baluchistan also experienced an increase in militant activity, with at least 24 attacks, which charged 26 lives, including 11 security personnel, six civilians and nine militants.
In Punjab, two militant attacks were reported, leaving an injured security official. The last day of January, the militants launched a great assault on a police control post in the Jhangi area of DG Khan, but the security forces repelled the attack without victims. Sindh and the Federal Capital, Islamabad, witnessed an attack, although none resulted in deaths.
The month also saw two suicide bombings, both in Baluchistan. The forbidden Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan attributed the responsibility of one, while the proscribed Liberation Army of Baluchistan the credit was attributed by the other.
