The governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has urged Sindh’s prime minister, Murad Ali Shah, to establish a high -level commission to investigate the growing number of traffic accidents and deaths in Karachi.
In a letter to the main minister, Tessori highlighted the concerns about reckless driving, particularly for heavy vehicles such as Dumpers, Trailers and Water Petroleums.
He observed a strong increase in traffic violations and accidents in recent months, which has caused significant public anxiety.
The proposed commission, directed by the main secretary, would examine the root causes of these incidents and approached those responsible, said Tessori.
He emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to avoid new tragedies and guarantee public safety.
According to the Chhipa Welfare Association, Karachi has registered 107 deaths related to traffic in the first 45 days of 2025, including 78 men, 14 women, 11 boys and 4 girls.
In addition, 1,493 people were injured, comprising 1,290 men, 193 women, 42 boys and 18 girls.
Previously, the governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, wrote a second letter to the Superior Court of Sindh (SHC) President of the Supreme Court, urging immediate measures about the growing number of deaths by traffic in Karachi.
In his letter, Tessori highlighted administrative negligence and legal violations as important causes of fatal accidents in the city.
The governor expressed concern about a recent incident in which four citizens lost their lives in one day.
He pointed out that despite a court order that restricts heavy traffic to enter the city between 7 am and 11 pm, non -compliance complaints continue to increase.
Governor Tessori asked the Superior Court to guarantee a strict involvement of his orders to avoid new tragedies.
Previously, the Karachi Division Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi announced a complete prohibition of heavy traffic in the city during the day during the next two months.
The prohibition, effective from February 14 to April 13, 2025, restricts the movement of dumpeters that transport construction materials, mixing machines and other heavy traffic within the boundaries of the city from 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m
