The National Committee of the Permanent Assembly on Climate Change has approved the Draft Responsibility Law of Climate 2024.
The NA panel meeting was held on Wednesday under the president of Munazza Hasan who discussed the draft Liability Law 2024 sent by MNA Sharmila Farooqui. The proponent of the bill told the committee that the bill provided for corporate responsibility and with the aim of reducing carbon expenses.
The bill proposes the establishment of a climate change fund and suggests imposing fines on companies that damage the environment, Sharmila said. The secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change informed the Committee that the fund configuration process had already begun. The secretary recommended a vote on the bill, which was subsequently approved unanimously.
During the NA Committee meeting, MNA Nuzhat Sadiq presented the Pakistan Environmental Protection Law 2024. The Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change said the Ministry requires the opinion of the Prime Minister on the bill. In addition, the Ministry of Law also adopted the same position.
In addition, the Committee sought a detailed informative session on crop waste burning. The general director of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency said fines for four private housing societies have been imposed due to the lack of wastewater system.
The president of the Committee questioned why the EPA did not take measures during the construction of these housing societies.
