Islamabad:
The federal government has decided to convene the Central Committee Ruet-E-Hilal in Peshawar to see the Ramazan moon, with the aim of a unified start for the holy month in Pakistan.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting to determine the beginning of Ramazan 1446 Hijri will take place on February 28.
The president of the Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will preside over the session.
The Zonal Committees of Ruet-E-Hilal will hold separate meetings in their respective regions, but the final decision on the sighting of the Moon will come from the central body.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs will supervise the arrangements.
Pakistan has historically faced differences in the sighting of the moon, which leads to different dates of Ramazan and Eid in different provinces, particularly between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country.
The government expects to transfer the Central Committee to Peshawar will encourage consensus among religious scholars and guarantee synchronized observance of the Holy Month.
