Conan O’Brien is preparing to organize the Oscar 2025 on March 2 with a couple of special people in mind: their late parents.

“I think they were very proud of the work I did, and they would have enjoyed tonight,” Conan told People of his father, Dr. Thomas O’Brien and Mother Ruth Reardon O’Brien, who died in December a few days apart.

“I have a great photograph of my parents laughing at the audience at an event that I did years ago, [and] I realized the original reason why anyone gets into comedy is only trying to make our parents laugh, “he shared.

He continued: “I used to think sometimes, ‘why would I continue to make comedy if my parents are no longer here?'”

“I will still be thinking about them on Oscar’s night and trying to laugh,” he admitted. “That is a kind of comfort.”

The former presenter of the interview program also confessed that it is more pressure to impress his deceased parents now that they are not here.

“It is also more pressure in case they did not like them, and they made me know,” said Conan O’Brien. “When your parents go to all that effort to travel through space-time and mystery mists to tell you that they did not love it, it is an overwhelming blow, so I really have to nail it.”
