Exchange Dr. Shakeel Afridi with Dr. Aafia ‘Not viable’

Islamabad:

On Friday it was reported on Friday that the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) that a proposal floated by the American lawyer of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui for the delivery of Shakeel Afidi to the United States for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was not likely, since there was no agreement between the agreement between the two countries for the exchange of prisoners.

The additional attorney general Munawwar Iqbal Duggal also told the IHC that the government retreated to support a judicial request in a United States court for release, citing reservations at some points included in the draft.

IHC Judge Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the request for liberation and repatriation of Dr. Siddiqui. During the hearing, the court asked about the case of Shakeel Afridi. The Court was informed that Aphridi was a convicted person, and his appeal was pending in the Superior Court of Peshawar (PHC).

Duggal said that the proposal of the American lawyer Clive Smith to extradite Aphridi in exchange for the release of Dr. Siddiqui was not viable. He added that both were citizens of Pakistan and that there was no treaty of prisoner exchange between Pakistan and the United States.

Duggal also highlighted government reserves to an appeal presented in a United States court by Dr. Siddiqui. The Court expressed surprise for government support and gave the additional attorney general a week to inform him about objections.
