Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Department of Health, Ihtesham Ali, has confirmed another case of MonkeoPox (MPOX) in the province, said Express News.

According to him, this marks the first case transmitted locally from MPOX in KP. Previously, all reported cases had been identified among people returning from foreign trips.

The advisor also declared that the husband of the affected woman had recently returned from a Gulf country. Initially, he did not exhibit symptoms, but later, he also gave positive for MPOX.

According to the Director of Public Health, Dr. Fazal Majeed, the patient entered the hospital on February 18, after experiencing fever and body pain.

On February 19, rashes and moles appeared in their body and inside their mouth, which led the Public Health Coordinator Dr. Muhammad Amir Khan to inform the case.

On February 20, a research team collected the patient’s samples and sent them to the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber’s University of Medicine, Peshawar, where the diagnosis was confirmed on February 21.

Providing details about the patient’s husband, Dr. Majeed mentioned that he had not shown symptoms when he returned to Pakistan. However, on February 5, he developed a fever and body pain, followed by the appearance of rashes on February 6. Despite this, he chose to stay at home for 10 to 15 days instead of seeking medical attention.

On February 22, a team made a review of the patient’s medical history, examined the members of his family and nearby contacts, and instructed all people, including his husband, to undergo a home isolation.

Dr. Majeed has urged the public to stay attentive to the symptoms of Monkeopox and seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health center if suspicious symptoms appear.
