A Karachi court granted the bail of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) to President AFAQ Ahmed in a fire case related to the torch of a truck in the city of Sarjani.

The additional judge of the district and the sessions (West) approved the bond against the bail bonds by value of RS1 million, ordering the release of Ahmed if it is not desired in any other case.

Ahmed’s lawyer, lawyer Javed Chattari, argued that the accusations had no basis and that the police did not provide evidence that links the MQM-H leader with the incident.

However, the Prosecutor’s Office said the case was registered at the Police Station of the City of Armjani after the alleged fire caused.

The court observed that the Prosecutor’s Office had not submitted sufficient evidence to oppose the bond.

The ruling occurs in the midst of continuous legal procedures against political figures in Karachi.

Earlier this month, AFAQ was arrested in relation to cases of fires caused in the areas of the Awami colony of Karachi and Landhi, where unidentified people set fire to load trucks.

The court, however, questioned the legitimacy of the terrorism charges invoked in the case.

During the hearing, the judge expressed skepticism for the accusations, commenting: “How and why was the terrorism clause in this case?” He also declared that if the case lacked sufficient evidence, it could be directly dismissed.

The court also adopted a critical position on political arrests, noting that imprisoning politicians often improves their popularity.

“A gentleman is already in jail and is not being controlled, now another one is asked to leave, and refuses to do it,” said the judge.

AFAQ Ahmed was arrested on February 11, after reports from three cargo vehicles and a water tank truck in different areas of Karachi, including Sharifabad and Arrejani Town.

The police presented it in the Court in search of a physical return, which was denied by the ATC.
