- Nordvpn’s research reveals billions of malware incidents in 2024
- Almost 85,000 fake Google URLs were identified
- Phishing is still a serious problem, so he is on guard
The United States saw 1.9 billion malware incidents in 2024, has claimed new research, showing the large scale of the cybersecurity problem facing companies and consumers equally.
NordvPN’s investigation also discovered almost 85,000 false urls that are passed through Google websites and services, and takes the place as the scammer’s favorite, with Facebook occupying the second place with 6,000 URL fake and Microsoft in third place with 5,000.
Interestingly, NordvPN blocked more than 1.5 billion attempts to infection by malware only of video accommodation sites, so be careful with those dubious transmission ads of the site.
Phishing is king
Malicious URLs are part of a phishing scam, in which the sites are passed by a credential harvest scheme. Social engineering attacks will ask users to click links, enter their details or deliver their confidential information.
These will try to scare the victims making them think that their accounts have committed or that their details are necessary for a restart, before delivering the malware.
This tactic is not unusual, we have recently seen falsified Microsoft authentication systems through phishing attacks, and this is a fairly common tactic among cybercriminals.
“In fact, most of all Phishing attacks use around 300 brands for deception. The brands themselves are not to blame: such falsifications also harm their reputation, which forces companies to actively hunt them, ”says Adrianus Warmenhoven, NordvPN cyber security advisor.
Experts recommend being very careful when opening unexpected communications, especially avoiding any uninquented link and verifying all downloads. This research describes the dangers of visiting insecure websites, so it is always a good advice to avoid them, especially when using a company device that stores confidential information.
