Islamabad:
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised concerns about delays in the audit process of state institutions, the Pakistan General Auditor (AGP) Ajmal Gondal on Wednesday informed the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday.
When heading to the meeting, Agp Gondal revealed that the IMF had expressed alarm for almost 600,000 pending audit paras.
“The IMF has demanded an early agreement of institutions for the audit of institutions,” he said, noting that around 500,000 to 600,000 audit objections related to several ministries and institutions are still unresolved.
Despite the parliamentary directives, Gondal declared that the head accountant has not been designated in state institutions. “The financial audit system is defective due to the non -implementation of the rules,” he said.
“The secretaries and financial directors of institutions are not clearing their audits,” he added, highlighting that only 15 institutions have financial directors, but none has a main internal accountant.
He emphasized the absence of internal audit systems in all institutions, which has led to a growing accumulation of cases.
“The number of pending audit cases with the PAC has increased to more than 30,000,” the AGP informed to the committee.
The PAC also discussed the elimination of a FBR official who allegedly refused to install a flag in the Minister of Finance. The president of FBR explained that the officer used an inappropriate language about the minister’s office, which led to his removal.
The members of the committee discussed whether an unpaid vehicle in the PAID could even be marked, but the president of FBR admitted that he had not investigated the matter. Ullah Khan from PML-N urged to dismiss honest officials without due process.
The president assured the committee that a fair treatment would be guaranteed.
