- Samsung XR headphones could obtain first -part controllers
- It is not known if they will be included in the box with the headphones
- Nor is it known what design the controllers will have
Samsung and Google XR headphones, currently known as Project Moohan, are emerging as an Apple Vision Pro competitor with high -end specifications (such as an OLED Rumoreada screen) and an elegant design, but also seems to avoid the greatest error of its rival: the lack of first -part controllers.
Samsung had already confirmed that the headphones would be compatible with controllers and manual gestures when he announced the device, but now a Sammobile report reveals that Samsung will make their own phones first part, after the publication discovered references to the controllers with the ET-OI610 model number.
It is not clear how these controllers will take: they could be seen as standard virtual reality controllers or more like a gamepad, and we will not know more until the designs are filtered or Samsung officially shows them.
Nor is it clear if they will be sent with the headphones or as a complement, but I seriously hope that Samsung puts them in the box and does not repeat the error made by Apple with their vision pro headphones.
A controller catastrophe
The Apple Vision Pro had several failures, but perhaps the greatest non -forced error was Apple’s decision not to send it with controllers, as is standard for its XR competitors. This decision is the most important reason why Vision Pro lacked Tentpole XR software that can be found in another place, and why it took so long with a handful of titles to reach the system.
When I talked to the XR software developers who have created games and applications for the target quest, Steam and lives platforms, the biggest challenge they told me that they face the Vision Pro is their lack of controllers. In addition, the V Vision uses a somewhat tailored version of the hand monitoring that is based on eye tracking, which makes its control scheme almost completely different from any other platform.
In general, the carrying software of an XR headset to another is simple: there are some things that should be changed according to the specifications, but the basic game or application can remain as it is. Because the pro vision is so different in its control scheme, they told me that for many games and applications it would be as easy to create a completely new title as it would be to transmit an existing one for a different virtual reality headset, given the amount of redesign that would be required, and that would be consumption of time and expensive for developers.
While it seems that Samsung and Google will avoid the general problem at least to produce first -part controllers, they could still shoot in the foot, since the reports do not say if the first -part controllers will be included in the box.
It is likely that it does not include controllers leave a bad taste in the mouth of customers and could affect sales, which could also be a problem for developers. The Android XR device is expected to be quite expensive, and nickel and diming buyers asking them to pay more for the controllers would not be ideal.
For now, we will have to wait and see what Samsung has under his sleeve.
