- New images apparently show a Hasselblad X2D II upper plate
- The camera is likely to be an iterative update of X2D 100C
- It could be the Hasselblad camera registered with the FCC in December 2024
If I could have a camera, money without object, Hasselblad X2D 100C would probably be everything. However, I could soon be adding an ‘II’ to that nickname, after leaks of the next successor of the camera of my dreams.
The people of the photos rumors shared a publication that contains a Hasselblad FCC record for the ‘HB722’ product, dated December 4, 2024, followed by a photo that apparently shows a top plate of an X2D II camera, which leads us to believe that the next product could be an X2D successor, and that comes soon.
The current model is a 100MP average format camera with an impressive minimalist design and a retramed user experience. I loved checking the camera when it was launched in 2022, but an update could offer significant improvements
Yes, the X2D 100C floats in my boat, but that does not make it the perfect camera.
The following model, apparently called X2D II, suggests an iterative update: it would expect an important update to be called X3D. However, that is pure speculation, and there are still no filtered specifications.
It would be in favor of a new Hasselblad camera, whether a modest or substantial update. Here are the 5 main updates that I hope.
Catch up on
I have no complaints with the image quality of the X2D 100c: its fixed 100MP images are full of details and divine natural color. A higher resolution sensor next time around holders, but I don’t think it is necessary or probable.
Nor would it change much of anything in terms of design; The grip provides a firm firm if shooting in vertical or horizontal format, there is a charming balance with most lenses, while the minimalist control design and menus give quick access to the configuration that you use the most, eliminating the rest.
If the image quality and the factor are fine as they are, what would change? My desired updates focus largely on the approach and speed.
In the first place, I would love a precise automatic approach to subject detection, specifically people focus on eye detection. The X2D 100C presents the best Automatic Automatic approach system in Hasselblad, but it is still years behind the best mirror without Sony, Canon, Nikon and more.
The accuracy of the automatic approach is key, especially given the huge 100MP files that highlight the user technique / camera limitations. Being armed with reliable ocular detection AF would make photo sessions relax a lot.
In addition to the precise automatic approach, I would also like the automatic approach to be significantly faster and reliable. It is not that he plans to use the X2D 100C for sports and wildlife photography, but the fastest approach to portraits would be appreciated.
While we are on the subject of speed, the continuous shooting of the gust of X2D 100C is limited to only 3.3 fps. Understandable given the huge file sizes, but the rival GFX100 II of Fujifilm has more than double that speed. Once again, I am not shooting action with an average format chamber, but I would like the option for faster box speeds, especially for portrait sessions.
The fastest burst shot could also feed a high resistance high resolution shooting mode: the type you get with smaller format cameras for quadruple the resolution. Imagine a 400mp file of a Hasselblad!
Landscape photography is an obvious force of an average format of 100MP, for which the best sealed by the weather and the duration of the improved battery could be really useful in the future X2D II: it was not too impressed by the X2D 100C on those two fronts.
The video recording is completely absent in the X2D 100c. Once again, I would not naturally think of using such a camera for video work, but when I think of how impressive Hasselblad color is for fixed images, the perspective of an 8K video with such a beautiful color is exciting.
To summarize: a faster processor, a precise and faster automatic approach, refined handling and video recording. Those request a modest and completely feasible amount. More lenses are always welcome.
