Four people, including the prominent cleric Munir Shakir, were injured in an explosion that involved explosive materials within the jurisdiction of the Armar Police Station in Peshawer.
According to the Police, Mumfti Munir Shakir, the founder of the Lashkar-i-Islam militant group, suffered injuries to his left foot in the explosion. Other injured individuals were identified as Khushhal, Abid and Syed Nabi.
All injured were immediately transferred to the Lady Reading hospital for initial medical treatment.
After the explosion, the Police, together with officials of the Pump disposition unit (BDU) and the Terrorism Department (CTD), quickly reached the scene and began to collect evidence.
The law enforcement agencies are carrying out investigations in the area, with additional consultations to determine the nature and cause of the explosion.
Mufti Munir Shakir, a cleric from the Kurram agency, settled in Bara Tehsil of the Khyber agency in 2004 after being expelled from his hometown to incite sectarian hatred. His arrival at the Khyber agency went unnoticed at the beginning.
He then launched a local radio station and again began to gather followers under his hard line interpretation of Islam. This time, his goal was a religious scholar of Barelvi, Pir Saifur Rehman, who had emigrated from Afghanistan in the 1980s and now lived in the Khyber agency, directing a seminar.
After a series of violent clashes between the two groups, in 2006 a jirga was convened that decided to expel both clergymen. While Pir Saifur Rehman fulfilled the decision, Munir Shakir at first resisted expulsion, but the locals were forced to leave. He made Mangal Bagh, then a local carrier, his successor in the armed militia that became known as Lashkar-E-Islam.
In 2008, the militant group based in Bara Lashkar-i-Islam was prohibited.
