Pakistan advocates gender equality

UNITED NATIONS:

Pakistan has requested a global “unwaver and sincere” global commitment to guarantee gender equality, women’s empowerment and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Antipobrevismos (SDGs).

“At this crucial moment, we must renew our commitment to ensure that all women and girls can live with dignity and equality,” said Pakistani delegate Allah Dino Khowaja to the UN Commission on Women’s Status.

Khowaja, the Federal Secretary of Human Rights, spoke during a general debate about the implementation of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which advocates greater equality and opportunities for women and men, as well as girls and boys.

He described the Beijing platform for action as one of the “most complete and transformative” frames to promote women’s rights, but acknowledged that its complete implementation remains a challenge due to social and structural problems that continue to hinder progress.

Khowaja said Pakistan is still committed to empowering women in all areas of life.

“In our search for gender equality and the empowerment of women, Pakistan is guided by our constitutional obligation, international commitments and, above all, the vision of our founding father, quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who rightly said:” No nation can rise to the top of glory unless your women are on your side, “said the delegate of Pakistani.

Pakistan, he said, has promulgated progressive laws and policies to guarantee safeguarding women’s rights, providing equal opportunities and guaranteeing their full participation in national life.

In this sense, Khowaja said that Pakistan has prioritized political empowerment and participation, with seats reserved for the Parliament of Women, provincial assemblies that guarantee their representations at all levels of decision making.

“(We) we proudly share that Pakistan, being the Islamic country, had Shaheed Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto as the first woman of women democratically elected, with the prime minister of the largest province (Punjab), president of the Superior Court of Punjab, Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Judges of the Supreme Court.”

Khowaja also said that women continue to occupy leadership positions in civil bureaucracy and large business boards. He also caught attention to the women’s empowerment package recently launched by the Prime Minister, ensuring 33% of the representation of women in all administrative and legal agencies, financial institutions, while guaranteeing a legal framework to guarantee the protection of property rights.
