- Microsoft has started a new set of previous Windows 11 compilations in the tests
- These will have “platform changes behind the scene” for the operating system
- It is rumored that Microsoft will play with the current Germanio platform, instead of changing to a completely new base for Windows 11, and that should mean less errors
Microsoft is likely to change to work in the next great update for Windows 11, which would be 25h2, based on rumors and what is happening with the last construction of preview.
Microsoft itself has told us that the new compilations in the 26200 range, which are now in the testing channel for the tests, are still based on 24h2, the current version of Windows 11, but that it will be “to make platform changes behind the scene in these compilations”, which could mean that they have different problems for 24h2 compilations on the beta channel (a posterior branch).
According to Zac Bowden from Windows Central, who regularly shares rumors related to what is happening in Microsoft, these development compilations are “probable” to establish the “early base for version 25h2”, which, of course, is due to the earth later in 2025.
Then, in other words, the Beta channel will continue to be constructions based exclusively on 24h2, while the DEV channel will now obtain changes under the hood to prepare the stage for 25h2 (probably).
Bowden also points out that the changes in the underlying platform are based on Windows 11, the extensive mass of code you never sees, but it is the glue that maintains all the bits with which it interacts, it will incorporate the necessary changes for the Snapdragon X2 incoming chip of Qualcomm.
These changes have already been implemented in the Canary Canal, apparently, which is the earliest test channel, before DEV, and are now arriving at the DEV channel, this indicates that Microsoft is progressing to make the finished version of Windows 11 be compatible with devices fed by the Snapdragon X2 CPU.
These devices, which are expected to enter a new Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2 processor, should later arrive in 2025, along with this new version of Windows 11, in theory.
ANALYSIS: Do you keep Germanio?
You can remember that Windows 11 24h2 was built on a new underlying platform, called Germanio by Microsoft. This main switch with the Windows 11 bases was carried out to guarantee the compatibility with the chips of the arms (and to improve the performance and general safety of the operating system), and the first generation of Snapdragon X processors.
However, that was a enormous Move, while the work is now rumored that is underway is to adjust Germanio for Snapdragon X2, that is not a total change of platform, but a refinement of what was established last year. Or at least this is what Bowden feels that it is the most likely scenario, although Microsoft may still change to a different platform with 25h2, the filter recognizes.
If it is true that Microsoft stays with Germanio, this is important, because one of the reasons why Windows 11 24h2 has been so buggy is due to that migration to the new (at that time) Germanio, which I think caused a great shock in the internal operation of the Microsoft operating system. And that is why some of the many technical problems that we have seen with the 24h2 update have been so strange (again, in my opinion, take it with caution, of course).
Because Windows 11 25h2 will not be such a large movement, it should be much more implemented without problems and less errors in general, at least in theory, and that is a hope that many people cling to many people for now.
At the same time, we have to face the fear that the poor execution of errors can continue, either because there are so many to eliminate, this fire fight has not followed its course, or that Microsoft will move away from Germanio, which could again mean more than usual of the errors that align us.
Since the 24h2 have reproduced, quite terribly for mistakes, hopefully, Microsoft will be in a mood with risk restructuring here.
