The leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Pakistan (MQM-P) movement and attached parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly, Taha Ahmed Khan, has written a letter to the president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, urging him to take a warning of the growing number of accusations of mortal traffic in Karachi.
In his letter, Taha expressed a deep sadness for the tragic death of a pregnant woman, her husband and her son, who was forced to be born prematurely due to the accident, in the recent Malir Halt incident.
He said that since the beginning of 2025, 207 people have died and 2,623 have been injured in traffic accidents in Karachi.
Asking for immediate measures, he demanded strict measures against those responsible for the tragedy of Malir Halt. “The Sindh government compensates for those who die after consuming toxic liquor, why not Karachi citizens?” He questioned.
He urged the president of the Supreme Court to impose strict restrictions on the movement of illegal dumpeters and heavy vehicles and to take quick measures to guarantee the safety of the lives and property of the citizens of Karachi.
The MQM leader also requested strict legal actions against violations of traffic laws and criminal negligence. He demanded compensation for the families of those killed in accidents, improvements in the conditions of the road and the installation of street lamps in the city.
Taha emphasized that the growing number of accidents violates articles 9 and 25 of the Constitution. He requested a strict application of the Motorized Vehicle Ordinance 1965 and the Motorized Vehicles Rules of Sindh 1969, and Action Against Violations under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Pakistan Criminal Code.
In addition, he urged the allocation of specific times and routes for heavy vehicles, implementation of speed cameras, Challan systems and vehicle aptitude controls. “Innocent lives are being lost,” he emphasized, “and the Supreme Court must take an immediate warning.”
Previously, an eyewitness had the heartbreaking details of a tragic road accident in which an imprudent water oil tanker cut a young man and his pregnant wife and caused a premature birth of his baby who also died in the place.
The young couple, identified as Abdul Qayum and her wife Zainab and the residents of Malir Cantt, returned home after a check -up prior to delivery at the Kohi Goth hospital when the accident occurred near Malir Haltful in the model colony.
“We, my wife and I, went beyond Malir Halt on our motorcycle when the tragic accident occurred,” said Escular Witness Mashkoor Khan as he spoke exclusively to The Express PAkGazette.
“My wife was the first to detect the reckless water oil tanker that came from the wrong side of the road,” he recalled. “I also saw it while brushing three or four vehicles before running on a sidewalk and crushing a motorcycle transmitted couple.”
