WASHINGTON:
The United States added 80 companies and institutes in Pakistan, China and four other countries to its export control list to prevent US technologies and goods from “badly used” for missiles and other military activities, the trade department said in a publication on Tuesday.
According to a report by the New York Times, the Trump administration added 54 companies and organizations from China to the list of entities of the Department of Commerce, as well as more than two dozen Iran, Pakistan, South Africa, the United Arab Emirate (EAU) and Taiwan.
“Additional entities had made contributions to Pakistani nuclear activities and their missile program, they advanced China’s quantum technology and the development of hypersonic weapons, and tried to avoid US controls on Iran, among other actions, the administration said.
China’s blacklists companies included six INSPUR Group subsidiaries, a leading supplier of cloud and big data computing services, to contribute to the development of supercomputers for the Chinese military, he said. Five of the subsidiaries are based in China and one in Taiwan.
Inspur Group itself was placed on the list in 2023. The listings are destined to restrict China’s ability to develop high performance computer capabilities, quantum technologies and advanced, and prevent China’s development from their hypersonic weapons program, the department said.
The Black Commercial List also included the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Academy. “We will not allow adversaries to exploit US technology to reinforce their own military and threaten American life,” said Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
“The objective is to prevent US technologies and goods from being misused for activities such as high performance computer science, hypersonic missiles and training of military and UAV airplanes (drones) that threaten our national security,” said Secretary of Commerce Jeffrey Kessler.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Beijing would take the necessary measures to safeguard the interests of Chinese companies. The movement “is not conducive to creating an atmosphere for both parties to solve problems through dialogue and cooperation,” said the China Ministry of Commerce in a statement.
The Chinese embassy in Washington said it firmly opposed “these acts taken by the United States and demand that you immediately stop using problems related to the army as pretexts to politicize, instrumentalize and arm commercial and technological problems.”
In imposing sanctions on more companies, the United States also sought to interrupt the acquisition of drones of drones and defense elements related to Iran and avoid the development of its ballistic missile program and nuclear activities without safety.
The United States adds companies to the list of entities for national security or foreign policy concerns. Companies could not sell goods to which they appear without requesting and obtaining licenses, which are probably denied.
