- The White House updates its AI directives for faster modernization
- Federal agencies will adopt AI in various capacities.
- The appointment of the main officers of AI is still required
The White House has published two updated directives of AI ‘America First’ to modernize the federal government, at the risk of eliminating some of the safeguards established to protect citizens and companies.
The changes are part of President Trump’s impulse to maintain the global dominance of the United States into artificial intelligence and reverse some safeguards that remain of the Biden era.
In general, the objective seems to be maximizing efficiency and eliminating unnecessary steps so that the United States can continue to develop technology and its implementation at a fast pace, preventing it from staying behind.
Trump wants us to continue being a leader of AI
Eager to demonstrate the action, as well as the intention, Lynne Parker, principal director of the OSTP of the White House, said: “This administration focuses on encouraging and promoting the innovation of American and global leadership, which begins with the use of these emerging technologies within the federal government.”
Parker added that the new policies would provide “very necessary guidance” while “eliminates unnecessary bureaucratic restrictions.”
However, artificial intelligence is not just a tool that can be connected to knowledge workers to obtain some productivity improvements.
The Department of Justice is using technology to better understand drug trafficking, while the Department of Veterans Affairs has been using AI for the identification and analysis of lung cancer.
Like the previous Executive Order of Biden, the Trump administration is asking the agencies that name the IA officers in the bosses who assume responsibility and guide their teams with more structure.
Despite the desire for rapid growth, the memorandum continues to emphasize the importance of continuous security: “Through this memorandum, agencies are aimed at providing improved services to the public, while maintaining strong safeguards for civil rights, civil liberties and privacy.”
