The sisters of the imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), President Imran Khan, were once again prevented from meeting with him in the Adiala prison on Tuesday, which caused a protest on the Aleema Khan road outside the installation.
In what was scheduled as a visiting day for Imran, the members of the family of his wife Bushra Bibi, as well as several lawyers, reached the jail in Rawalpindi.
However, when Imran’s sisters tried to go through the control point of Gorakhpur, they were denied entry. In protest, Aleema Khan left her vehicle and sat on the pavement, refusing to leave.
Speaking to journalists, Aleema said the police had previously stopped them and left them in an isolated area after a similar attempt to meet their brother. “If they stop us here again, we’ll sit here. They cheated us last time, we won’t move today,” he said.
When asked about the previous statement of the prison administration that Khan did not want to meet his family, Aleema laughed at the suggestion.
“Is this something that someone would believe? He demanded a meeting and made noise inside the jail,” he said, citing a family witness.
In addition, he claimed that the authorities were using tactics delaying and creating obstacles to prevent them from being seen.
Aleem added that unless the three sisters were allowed together, they would increase their protest.
“We do not accept any formula less one. Either we go together or not,” he told reporters.
The legal representatives, including lawyer Ali Zafar and lawyer Gohar, were also present outside the prison, although Aleema said they were also asked not to advocate for the family’s visit.
Similar scenes took place earlier this month when the sisters were arrested in the same place, briefly arrested and then fell away from the site.
The incident has promoted concerns among PTI supporters about Imran’s access restrictions on his family.
Imran Khan, former country’s prime minister, remains imprisoned for multiple positions, as legal battles continue to follow the expulsion of his government through a parliamentary vote of lack of confidence in 2022.
