PM Shehbaz promises an offensive against trafficking in people after the incident of Libya’s ship

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a deep sadness on Wednesday for the death of four Pakistani nationals in a boat overturning incident off the coast of Harawa, near the city of Sirte, in eastern Libya.

The tragic incident occurred on April 12 near the coast of Harawa, near the city of Sirte, as reported in an official statement sent by the Embassy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. Until now, rescue teams have recovered 11 bodies from the sea.

A team from the Pakistani embassy visited Sirte and confirmed the identities of the four died Pakistani using national identification documents. According to the report, three of the deceased came from Mandi Bahauddin, while one was from Gujranwala.

In a shared message in his official X (previously Twitter) account today, the prime minister wrote: “deeply saddened by the reports of our Tripoli mission of another incident of boat overturning … in which at least four Pakistani have been confirmed dead of 11 victims.”

He added that Pakistan’s mission in Tripoli and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are actively working with the Libyan authorities to recover the remains and guarantee adequate coordination with the families of the victims.

The prime minister also reaffirmed the resolution of his government to take energetic measures against the traffickers of people responsible for endangering Pakistani citizens.

“We are taking strong measures against those responsible for attracting our citizens to this trap of death. We will continue to go down strongly on such elements so that no family has to carry the coffins of their loved ones in such accidents,” he said.
