- The Github CEO, Thomas Dohmke, advocates for coding education in schools
- Artificial intelligence is only amplifying human work, it will not replace it
- Using AI is just another pillar to continue learning
Github, owned by Microsoft, who has introduced a series of powerful generative tools for its popular developer platform in recent years, still believes that there is a place for the traditional code.
Speaking in a recent podcast interview with EO (through Business intern), CEO Thomas Dohmke explained his belief that schools should teach coding as well as other central subjects, such as physics, geography and mathematics.
Advocating for an early beginning, Dohmke believes that children should learn coding from an early age, expressing their belief that qualified developers still have a great demand despite the emergence of artificial intelligence.
Github defends by coding education despite AI
The AI tools such as Github co -pilot and other popular chatbots, such as Chatgpt and Gemini, have democratized coding by making software development more accessible to all, which finally reduces the entry barrier.
For experienced developers, small equipment and even solo programmers can now unlock more scale, with the time of release of AI that was dedicated to repetitive tasks that can now be automated.
With the emergence of technology, questions have been asked about the future of works in coding, with thinner equipment that potentially reduce work openings, but Dohmke does not seem to be worried about this and, on the other hand, it still urges people to learn to encode.
“Anxiety is understandable, but again and again, developers have discovered how to channel the new capacities in whole innovation domains that did not exist before,” he said, indicating that the cases of use are expanding and the need for qualified programmers is not domesticating.
“You have to keep training. You have to keep learning. You’ve never finished learning,” he added. Reflecting on his three decades in the industry, Dohmke says that if he had stopped reading blogs and another literature, he would have been left behind. With this in mind, AI is just an evolution of the paper instead of the end.
