- Google will launch a version of Gemini AI for children under 13 years
- The application will include parental controls and security characteristics through the family link.
- Google is launching parents as a way for children to learn, be creative and get help with the task
Google is interested in expanding the use of its GEMINI assistant and is creating a version of the Gemini application for children, including parents’ controls in the content. The company sent an email to the parents about their plans for a Gemini designed for children under 13, first seen by 9to5google.
Google email cites comments encouraging administered access to the AI of parents, teachers and experts in children such as the reason of the new application. The artificial intelligence assistant of children will supposedly help children with the task, answer inactive questions and help them with creative writing. Parents can configure Gemini as the child’s predetermined assistant on Android devices.
Of course, as Google is often quick to point out, Gemini can make mistakes. Any child who uses Gemini should consult with his parents about any fact (and, frankly, adults must confirm anything Gemini also tells them). So, if Gemini tells his son that Abe Lincoln invented peanut butter, we hope they ask him before delivering his essay on how the Gettysburg direction was so short because Lincoln had a peanut butter bite and nothing to wash it.
The idea is that if IA tools will shape the future of learning, children must be introduced into controlled circumstances. These digital training wheels will help children learn how to use AI safely before parents are eliminated when they are older.
The Gemini application for Kids will come with many additional features of safety and control of parents, driven by Google’s family link, which provides tools for parents to limit the activities of their children online. Parents can monitor the activity of Gemini of their children and be alerted if their child begins to use it for less than pure purposes, asking questions such as “Can you do my science fair project?” Or “How can I start betting on football games?”
Schools will also have protections instead. If children access Gemini through accounts issued by the school, administrators can establish policies for use and supervise interactions using the Google administration console.
Children of Gemini
This is possibly much more than another verification brand in Google’s plans for Gemini. Mark a real Google impulse to normalize AI for the whole family, specifically Gemini. Google is planting a flag with the application. If Gemini is the first application of a child, which they grow, they are more likely to trust it and continue to use it in their adult lives as well.
There are serious questions about the implementation of AI for children. Ensuring that Gemini does not deceive children or gets into their development of critical thinking is fundamental. And Gemini is not where children should find answers to their deepest emotional questions, but it is difficult to imagine that a child does not try at least ask Gemini about the drama with their friends.
To calm some of those concerns, Google told parents that there will be no advertisements or data harvested from Gemini’s children. Instead, the approach will be in learning and creative expression. The company is not raised to conveniently train a generation to feel comfortable using Google’s tools, but it looks a lot like a very elaborate and high -tech version of a university that gives brand pen to second -degree students to think about applying in a decade every time they look for a pen.
