
The permanent representative of Pakistan before the United Nations, the ambassador to Iftikhar, has said that Islamabad has serious reservations about the recent actions of his archirival after the Pahalgam incident, which have raised serious threats to the peace and security of the region.
The Kashmira dispute remains not resolved today even after more than 70 years, the envoy said while informed the media after the session in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which was convened at the request of Pakistan in the midst of growing tensions with India after the attack in Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by India (Iiojk).
“The Kashmir’s dispute is the central problem between Pakistan and India and must be resolved according to the aspirations of the People of Kashmir,” he said.
A peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute is not possible without the participation of the People of Cashmiro, he said. He also commented that lasting peace in the region was not possible without solving this central problem.
By attracting the attention of the world to the situation of human rights in the Iiojk, he said that innocent civilians continue to face oppression and atrocities at the hands of the Indian forces.
Islamabad has repeatedly said and once again says that it has nothing to do with the Pahalgam incident, he emphasized, noting that Pakistan is willing to offer complete cooperation in an independent, transparent and international investigation.
The ambassador reminded the international community that Pakistan had been the first line in the world fight against terrorism and sacrificed more than 90,000 lives in this fight.
Ambassador Iphtikhar reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to defend his sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Pakistan has the right to defend himself,” he observed.
Pakistan’s envoy to the UN expressed strong concerns about India’s decision to suspend the Indo’s Waters Treaty, qualifying it as non -compliance with international law. He pointed out that the matter had also been raised during the CSNU meeting.
He reiterated that it was vital to act on the resolutions of the Durable Peace Security Council in the region.
Iftikhar said that Pakistan prefers dialogue to solve all problems with his neighbors, since the dialogues are the only viable path to peace.
He thanked the Security Council for convening the meeting, which according to him was aimed at discussing the current situation.
At the beginning of the Session of the Security Council, Khaled Khiari, general general secretary of the UN for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific informed the Member States, according to diplomats.
Later, Ambassador Iphtikhar shed light on the subject.
Before the 15 -member body meeting, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, requested a “maximum restriction” of India and Pakistan, warning that increasing tensions on a recent mortal terrorist attack in a backman running spirally in an absolute military confrontation.
Going to journalists outside the Security Council, Guterres expressed a deep concern about the deteriorated relations between the two residents of South Asia, saying that they had reached “the highest in years.”
He reiterated his conviction of the terrorist attack on April 22 in the Pahalgam area, who killed at least 26 civilians and wounded many more.
“Going to civilians is unacceptable, and those responsible must be taken to justice by credible and legal means,” said the UN Chief.
“It is also essential, especially in this critical hour, to avoid military confrontation that could easily get out of control.”
