IHC hits the police on the missing brothers

The Superior Court of the capital has expressed anger and frustration for the failure of the Islamabad Police to recover four brothers, who had disappeared from Islamabad in early 2024.

Judge Muhammad Asif, presiding over a single member of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC), resumed the audition of a petition presented by the family of the missing brothers on Monday.

During the hearing, the judge pointed out that every few days, a new case of forced disappearance of land in court. “We put our confidence in the police, but they have not been able to deliver,” he said.

The Legal Director of the Islamabad Police said that in many cases, people voluntarily leave house, only to reappear and testify later before a magistrate who had been on personal trips.

The petitioner’s lawyer questioned how the Punjab police managed to gather the brothers within the Islamabad Police jurisdiction, adding that one year and four months had passed without any progress in their recovery.

In addition, he pointed out that three Punjab police personnel were nominated as accused in the case, but they had not been arrested. “Both Islamabad Police and Punjab have not been able to recover the brothers,” he said.

The Inspector General of the Inspector of the Islamabad Police (DIG) told the bank that police officers received notices, but did not participate in the investigations. “Now we will request your arrest orders.”

The judge observed that the police should have sought the orders of the accused previously. “All this can also happen with you and I. What will we do then?” asked.

The Police of the Senior Superintendent of the Punjab Police (SSP) assured the Court that the Provincial Police would obtain the arrest orders of the accused official executed and presented a report in the Court.

Upon hearing the case in October 2024, IHC, then the president of the Supreme Court Aamer Faooq had punished the authorities for not recovering the brothers and also sought reports from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense.

The IHC had also ordered the superintendents of the Police (SSP) in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to appear in person at the next hearing along with the progress reports, warning that otherwise it would issue their arrest orders.

The four brothers had disappeared in January 2024 of the Barakahu area of ​​the Federal Capital.

According to the petitioner, the brothers were collected by the Rawalpindi Police of Khanna, which falls under the jurisdiction of Islamabad, in January. However, the police authorities of Islamabad and Punjab then denied them.
