The Punjab government has advanced its highly anticipated e-taxi project, approving a pilot phase of 1,100 electric taxis and load stations with solar energy that will be launched soon.

A special meeting was held presided by Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to review the mass transport projects.

During the session, the viability report of the mass transport system of the yellow line was presented, and the participants were informed about the E-Taxi ecological initiative of the province.

The meeting granted in principle approval to the financial model of the project and agreed to launch a pilot program that involves 1,100 electric taxis. It was also decided to install systems with solar energy for electronic load stations.

In addition, the authorities have requested a report on new routes for the mass transport system in Gujranwala.

Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructed the officials to determine the routes based on public convenience and ordered that the construction of the yellow line project, from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura, starts without delay.

The meeting also included a detailed review of the E-Taxi project. During the informative session, it was revealed that the Punjab government would offer subsidies under the e-taxi scheme. A proposal was also discussed to establish load stations along with gasoline pumps.

Previously, CM Maryam Nawaz ordered the free treatment of patients returning from India due to tension in bilateral relations.

After the recent voltage outbreak between the two countries, Pakistani patients were sent back from India without completing their treatment.
