- Netflix is redesigning its TV home page
- The generative AI is entering the search space
- There will also be a vertical video for mobile
The Netflix you see on your TV today was built to broadcast movies and television programs, and for more than a dozen years, that has been enough.
Now, however, the platform is not only overloaded with difficult content to find, but is also host of the games and, increasingly, live events of Buzzy and very seen as NFL games and boxing games between aging legends and annoying stars of social networks.
Old Netflix is no longer designed for the task, but that is changing today with the introduction of the most radical Netflix home screen update so far.
After two years of design work, months of development and time tests internally and with some customers, Netflix is ready for, as described by Netflix products, Eunice Kemp, take “a giant leap forward.”
Kemp told us that the new Netflix interface is more flexible, intuitive, receptive and elevated, and yes, those initials spells ‘fire’. Subtlety has never been Netflix’s thing.
When describing the interface as “a more flexible canvas,” Kemp said that the new aspect offers a better support for the aforementioned live events, so he knows better when to “capture the action at the time it happens.” Real -time updates can also help with Netflix Gaming, allowing people to join the action “exactly at the right time.”
Netflix has a several layer plan to help users find the right content. “Our members do a lot of gymnastics when they move down and to the right and back and forth between rows and the details of the title on the home page,” Kemp said.
The visual update seeks to put the content of the transmission decision making to the front and the center. For example, you will see ‘Emmy Winner’ or ‘Number one in television programs’ superimposed at the top of the title image.
There has also been a reore screening elements, such as direct access to the search and my lists to be more visible. Some users can resist Netflix, which exceeds our list of the best transmission services, moving classic interface elements, but Netflix told us that the comments that were received so far is positive.
A touch of ai
Netflix already uses the machine language and AI to suggest the next best transmission experience for you based on your previous visualization, but this update takes the use of AI to the next level.
It could be said that the greatest change, and one that could significantly shorten your next search for a film or show, is the introduction of the generative AI in the search. Based on the Big Language Model (LLM) of OpenAI, the new search function will allow you to ask questions in natural language.
Netflix’s director of Technology, Elizabeth Stone, said conversation phrases like “I want something scary but not too scary and also a bit fun, but not as ‘ha ha’ fun”, now it will produce useful results. Stone told us that Netflix merged the capabilities of the OpenAI reference model with Netflix’s own context about the members.
Even without a generative AI, Netflix is improving how the platform recommends a new transmission content. The receptive recommendations will collect the trailers you are seeing and the searches you are doing to refine the recommendations you see on the march.
“For example, let’s say you give Wednesday A thumb up. A few rows down, you may see similar titles to Wednesday, Or if you are looking for Rom Com and Glen Powell, we will subtly adapt your home page to show you more titles related to both, “Stone said.
Netflix is also making some changes in its mobile experience, in particular, the introduction of vertical videos. No, this is not becoming a social video application; It is just a recognition that this is how people like to consume video on their phones. The videos will be trailers for Netflix programs and movies, and you can see and move, or watch, touch and open the program in Netflix’s complete experience.
While vertical videos are being implemented “in the coming weeks”, the updates of the TV interface now arrive worldwide.
In general, this may be the most significant interface update of Netflix to date. “Our redesigned TV home page is simpler, more intuitive and better represents the entertainment amplitude in Netflix today,” Kemp said.
