Islamabad:
The Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf completely rejects the ruling of the Supreme Court that allows the trial of civilians in the military courts, saying that it will lead to a constitutional crisis. The party urged the president of the Supreme Court to form a complete court to solve the problem.
Going to a press conference in Islamabad after the decision of SC, the leader of PTI Salman Akram Raja called him “another dark day” for the country, saying that the Constitution had been attacked. “It’s the darkest day of my career as a lawyer,” Raja said, and added, “the whole nation feels sad for today’s verdict.”
He said that the Constitutional Bank of the Supreme Court had issued a sentence that undermined the progress of the last 80 years. Referring to article 175 (3), which entered into force in 1988 to define the boundaries between the Executive and the Judiciary, said: “Today’s decision has dismantled the foundations of the constitutional structure.”
According to the decision, Army officers will decide the fate of civilians behind closed doors, said Raja, adding that they could grant the penalty of life or the death penalty according to their discretion. He stressed that Pakistan would be the only country where civilians will be tried in military courts.
He said that a five -member bank previously described unconstitutional and illegal military courts. Then, an appeal was presented in 2023 against the decision. In October 2024, the 26th constitutional amendment was approved and a constitutional bank was formed with judges of his election, said the leader of PTI.
He said that CB’s decision has deprived the citizens of just judgments of Pakistan.
On the occasion, Babar Awan said that the SC ruling has led to a new constitutional crisis.
