Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the Federal Income Board (FBR) to take strict measures against individuals and sectors involved in tax evasion.
The Prime Minister, presiding over a review meeting on the extension of the tax base and the increase in tax revenues on Tuesday, said that people and sectors capable of paying taxes must be taken to the fiscal network, said a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s office.
He also requested a strict responsibility of the officers and the personnel who help the tax evaders. The prime minister praised the efforts of the government’s economic team for rapid progress to achieve the FBO’s income objectives for the current fiscal year.
He reiterated that expanding the fiscal network is a priority of the higher government to reduce the fiscal burden of the common man.
The prime minister ordered the FBR to complete the digital monitoring of the cement and other key sectors for next month. He also instructed that efforts to increase fiscal income from the tobacco sector accelerate in collaboration with the provinces.
He emphasized the need for the effective search for pending cases related to taxes to guarantee the recovery of public funds. “By the grace of Allah, the national economy is stable and moves towards growth,” he said.
During the informative session, it was revealed that the complete implementation of the monitoring system and traces in cement plants throughout the country had led to a significant increase in tax revenues.
With the implementation of this system in the sugar industry, tax revenues increased by 35% from November 2024 to April 2025. A tax revenue objective equivalent to 10.6% of GDP will be reached as a result of FBR reforms.
The federal ministers, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Muhammad Aurengzeb, Ahad Khan Chema, Attaullah Tarar, the president of FBR and the senior officials attended the meeting.
By chairing a review meeting on the construction of 15 new Danish schools and the Danish University, Shehbaz also directed the accelerator work in educational institutions.
He said that the establishment of these institutions throughout the country, for the provision of quality education for deserving and brilliant students, was one of the main priorities of the government.
The Prime Minister also requested quality construction work and his validation of third parties.
He addressed the relevant authorities to install smart tables in all classrooms, establish digital libraries and guarantee a transparent appointment process and based on merits for teaching staff.
He said that eligible local people must receive priority during the appointment process and ordered that proposals are presented for the establishment of the Danish authority.
During the meeting, there was an informative session on Danish schools under construction and the Danish University of Islamabad. They had completed forty -one percent in a Danish school in Islamabad.
In Gilgit Baltistan, work in Danish schools at Sultan Abad, Ghanche and Astore will be completed before June 30, 2026, while work in Bhimber and Bagh schools will also be completed in June 2026.
The viability and design of Danish schools in Sharda, Sibi, Musakhel and Zhob were completed. (With application entry)
