ISLAMABAD:
A Senate panel on Wednesday unanimously approved amendments to the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), officially criminalizing necrophilia. This comes after years of a legal loophole in this regard.
Necrophilia refers to feeling sexual attraction or committing sexual aggression toward a corpse.
The Senate Standing Committee on Home Affairs, chaired by Senator Shahadat Awan, held a meeting in the Parliament House, which was attended by Senators Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui and Samina Mumtaz Zehri, as well as officials from various departments.
The committee unanimously passed the ‘Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2024’, introduced by Senator Zehri.
The bill highlights the worrying cases of necrophilia in Pakistan and notes that similar laws have already been implemented in other countries to criminalize such acts.
The amendment specifically revises Section 377 of the PPC, which refers to “unnatural crimes.”
This new bill now includes corpses, making necrophilia punishable by life in prison.
