The former president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, said on Saturday that he will leave the conservative People Power Party (PPP), according to his Facebook publication.

The announcement occurs when the PPP presidential candidate is the candidate of the Democratic Liberal Party Lee Jae-Myung in the surveys before the instantaneous elections of June 3.

According to a Gallup Korea survey published on Friday, around 29% supported the presidential candidate of PPP Kim Moon-Soo, compared to 51% for the favorite Lee.

Yoon, whose marcial law of December and later expelled by political trial caused the presidential elections of SNAP, the members of the party had called to leave the party in an effort to gather more support from moderate voters who negatively consider their actions.

“I am leaving People’s power party to fulfill my responsibility to protect the Free Republic of Korea … Please provide support to Kim Moon-Soo,” Yoon said in his position, referring to the official name of South Korea.

The candidates Lee and Kim will meet in their first televised debate on Sunday.

The declaration of Yoon’s martial law, which according to him was necessary to break the legislative stagnation and “eliminate” the “anti-state” pro-nororean forces, obtained the support of extreme religious figures and right youtubers.

Pro-Yoon demonstrations became violent in January when extremist supporters angered by the approval of the Court of their formal arrest order assaulted a Seoul Palace of Justice. Four of them received prison terms this week.

Yoon had been accused of tacitly encouraging violence, having sent a message in early January to its hard line supporters warning that the country was “in danger” and promised to be with them “until the end.”

On Saturday, Yoon said that the next SNAP elections are the “last opportunity to prevent totalitarian dictatorship and protect liberal democracy and the rule of law.”

According to the latest Gallup survey published on Friday, the Lee of the Democratic Party, which currently faces multiple criminal trials, leads with 51% support, followed by the Kim of the PPP with 29%.

The PPP candidate, Kim, shot public care as the only cabinet member who refused to apologize for not avoiding the brief suspension of Yoon of the civil government.

But Kim apologized for Yoon’s martial law offer for the first time earlier this week, saying that “sincerely laments the people who suffer” for that.
