The former NBA player, Etan Thomas, compared the Chicago Sky star, Angel Reese, with a “Little Rock Nine” member, since the WNBA player had supposedly been “hateful comments” towards her during the defeat of the team against Indiana’s fever.

Thomas published a photo on his social media account on Monday, portraying Reese as one of the nine black schoolgirls who could attend a white school in Arkansas after the 1954 Supreme Court ruling that ended segregation in public schools.

The photo showed Reese superimposed on the iconic black and white photo known as the “image of Scream”. He showed Elizabeth Eckford, 15, shouted on her way to school. The image represented the courage that Eckford showed when entering Little Rock Central High School.

“This is how it has been for Angel Reese from the NCAA 2023 tournament when his LSU tigers defeated Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the national championship game,” Thomas wrote in X.

According to the reports, the WNBA was investigating racial insults that were reported that they went to Reese during Saturday’s game. The League did not go into details of what supposedly happened during the game in Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

“WNBA strongly condemns racism, hatred and discrimination in all forms: they do not take place in our league or in society. We are aware of the accusations and we are investigating the matter,” said the league in a statement.

The National Basketball Association (WNBPA) female also issued a statement.

“The WNBPA is aware of hate comments reports in yesterday’s game in Indianapolis and supports the current WNBA investigation into this matter,” said the union. “Such behavior is unacceptable for our sport.

“According to the policy of ‘No Space For Hate’ of the WNBA, we trust the League to investigate and take thorough measures and appropriate and appropriate measures to guarantee a safe and cozy environment for all.”

Reese and Clark had a heated exchange during the game, but both players said it was a “basketball game” and nothing else.

Reese’s trust in her skills and will to support them has made her one of the most commented athletes of the WNBA.
