Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated on Friday the newly built Jinnah Square Murree Road Subpass, a project completed in 35 days.
The underground step, which covers approximately 479 meters and has three traffic lanes, is part of a broader initiative to create a signal -free corridor from Islamabad Airport to Murree, aimed at relieving traffic congestion and reducing travel time for travelers.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Sharif praised the Interior Minister, Senator Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and his team, including the president of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa and the IG Islamabad Police, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, for her efforts to complete the Spristerary project. He described the initiative as beneficial at the national level, ensuring connectivity without problems with the picturesque tourist destination of Murree.
“It is due to the unity and harmony of the nation and the blessings of the almighty Allah. In addition, the meritorious history of the nation will be remembered by the enemy forever,” said the prime minister.
In addition to the underground passage, the project includes a road network and a landscape.
Prime Minister Sharif said that the connectivity route almost 9 kilometers long would not only benefit Rawalpindi and Islamabad residents, but also the entire nation through its best connectivity that is directed towards Murree.
Previously, Interior Minister Naqvi informed Prime Minister Sharif on the project progress and future plans, including design work for the underground step of Shaheen Chowk and the next tourist projects, such as a safari park and a telesilla in the Murree region.
The event was attended by federal ministers Hanif Abbasi, Dr. Tariq Fazl Chaudhary, the ministers of the state of Talal Chaudhary and Talha Burki, and other parliamentarians.
In addition, Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz also opened the elevated Nawaz Sharif step in Sargodha. The provincial minister, Sohaib Ahmed Bharth, informed him that the project had been completed in eight months at a cost of RS2.2 billion. More than 30,000 vehicles are expected to use the elevated daily passage of 1.3 km long.
People who travel to Sargodha from Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar will benefit from the project.
