Gupton’s words seemed to aim at least one player in the baseball diamond, as well as Mercer’s refuge. Gupton finally touched the dish and celebrated with his teammates from Samford.

A visibly frustrated campocort of Mercer, Bradley Frye, tried to follow Gupton and had to be arrested by the referees. Mercer’s coaches also expressed their frustrations to the referees.
