The National Authority for Disaster Management (NDMA) has issued an alert of flood flooding of Glacial Lake (GLOF) for the northern regions in the middle of a combination of high persistent temperatures, intensified monsoon activity and a prevailing weather system of the west.

According to a statement from the National Emergency Operation Center on Wednesday, the heat sustained in recent weeks has led to accelerated snow, Glacier Melt. Combined with ongoing monzone rains and thunderstorms, the risk of sudden floods of glacial outburst has increased significantly.

“The valleys identified as highly vulnerable, including Reshun, Brep, Booni, Sardar Gol, Thalu 1 and 2, Badswat, Hinarchi, Darkut and Hundur, have a high risk,” said the NDMA.

The sudden outbreaks of glacial lakes could trigger sudden floods, which represents serious threats to human life, livestock, agriculture and critical infrastructure. Roads, bridges and communication networks can also suffer interruptions, particularly in remote areas.

The authorities have urged residents, tourists and hikers to avoid areas and adjacent ribraries of glaciers in the locations identified during this high -risk period. “Stay informed through official alerts and cooperate with local authorities on any evacuation orders,” said the agency.

The NDMA also encouraged the public to report unusual water flows, movement of glaciers or rumbing sounds for local disaster management authorities immediately. The public can download the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” application for real -time notifications and security guidance.
