Sessi asked to expand the registration of workers

Karachi:

The president of the Public Accounts Committee of the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, has said that since its inception, the Social Security Institution of Sindh (Sessi) employees has not suffered an audit.

Sessi informed the PAC that his governing body had decided not to perform an audit, but Khuhro questioned whether Sessi is considered above the Constitution, refusing to undergo an audit. He stressed that Sessi is not exempt from audits and, therefore, ordered an audit of the institution.

Khuhro, the president of the PPP Sindh chapter, expressed these views while heading to a ceremony to commemorate the 72th anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, organized by the Popular Work Office at the Sessi headquarters on Thursday. Provincial Labor Minister Shahid Abdul Salam was also present on the occasion.

Nisar Khuhro said Sessi’s medical supplies worth RS8 billion are not being audited. He questioned the functioning of hospitals under the institution despite the large number of funds assigned for medications.

He stressed that an audit of the assignment of RS8 billion is essential to determine the proper use of the funds and the operation of the hospital team.

The Sessi reported that of the RS13 billion funds, 70 percent was spent on medical care services, including hospitals and 30 percent in the section of SECCI.

Khuhro suggested that the Labor Department should focus on guaranteeing the provision of medicines to workers through Sessi hospitals. He noted that of 670,000 industrial units, only 240,000 are registered with Sessi, while the real number of workers is around six million.

Khuhro said that the non -registration of industrial units and its workers is an important weakness of the well -being institution. He suggested that the Labor Department should take measures to register workers, including those who work in stores. He pointed out that the minimum wage of RS37,000 for workers in the private sector is not being implemented. If the minimum wage of RS37,000 is not applied, how can you expect the implementation of a higher salary of RS42,000? Therefore, the Department of Labor must guarantee the implementation of the Minimum Wage Policies of the SNDH Government for workers in public and private sectors.
