Pakistan will assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of July 2025 on Tuesday (today), with the ambassador to Iphtikhar Ahmad committing to defend multilateralism and international law while directing the work of the body of 15 members.
“The presidency of Pakistan will be transparent, inclusive and receptive,” said the Pakistani envoy to the application of the UN application, while preparing to face the challenges ahead.
The presidency of the Security Council, the world body energy center, is part of the term of two years of Pakistan as a non -permanent member of the UNSC, which began in January 2025. The presidency rotates monthly among its 15 members, in alphabetical order.
The previous terms of Pakistan in the Council were in 2012-13, 2003-04, 1993-94, 1983-84, 1976-77, 1968-69 and 1952-53.
The Iphikhar ambassador, who will preside over the council meetings on key world issues in July, said he was fully aware of the complex geopolitical scenario, the growing instability and threats to international peace and security, marked by the increase in conflicts and the deepening of humanitarian crises.
During this presidency of Julio, Pakistan is scheduled to organize two exclusive high -level events on multilateralism and a peaceful dispute agreement, and on non -office cooperation.
These issues, he said, reflected shared priorities: multilateralism, preventive diplomacy and cooperation with regional organizations to promote international peace and security.
At the same time, the approach will remain in key global issues, including the situation in the Middle East and developments in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
The ambassador to Iphtikhar has already met with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and reported it on the work program of the Council in July.
“As a country that has constantly advocated dialogue and diplomacy, Pakistan contributes a mainly and balanced perspective to the work of the Security Council formed by his own experience, and a long -standing contribution to the main maintenance efforts and construction of the UN Peace,” said the Pakistani envoy in the interview.
“We hope to work with all the members of the Council for a collective and timely action of the in line with its main responsibility under the letter and the expectations of the broader members of the UN,” he added.
Pakistan was chosen as a non -permanent member with an overwhelming support of the UN membership, obtaining 182 votes from 193.
