Port Studio Virtuos believes that it would be easy to bring a game of the Xbox S series to the Nintendo Switch 2, considering its technical similarities.
In an interview with WCCFTEC, Alex Heise, director of Business Development of Virtuos North America, and Eoin O’Gray, technical director of the Virtuos subsidiary, Black Shamrock, discussed the new Nintendo hardware and its technical abilities.
According to O’Gray, the GPUs of both consoles are similar in potential even though the Switch 2 has a lower performance than the Xbox S series and offers the Nvidia Super Super Sampulino (DLSS), but believes that it would still be an easy task to carry a game of the S series that works at 60 fps to the last console.
“As for GPU, the Switch 2 works slightly below the S series; this difference is more noticeable in portable mode,” O’Gray said. “However, the S series does not support technologies such as DLSS, that Switch 2 does. This makes the GPU capabilities of the two consoles comparable in general.
However, the technical director said that in terms of CPU, there is a “clearer distinction between the two consoles”, and the Switch 2 is closer to PlayStation 4 in that regard, since it has a slightly more powerful CPU.
“Since most games tend to be more attached to GPU than in the CPU when it is well optimized, the impact of this difference depends largely on the specific game and its target box speed,” O’Gray explained.
“Any shipping of games at 60 fps in the S series should easily transfer to the Switch 2. Similarly, a 30 fps S series game that is united to GPU must also port well the games with complex physics, animations or other CPU intensive elements can incur additional challenges to reach 30 or 60 fps or require additional optimization during the cover.”
Cyberpunk 2077That it can only reach 60 fps in the Xbox S series, but not consistently in the PS4, it only received a Switch 2 official port. However, this version does not offer 60 fps in the same way as the S series, and instead it presents two modes to choose from while it is attached, including a 40 fps yield mode and a quality mode of 30 fps.
