Islamabad:
A young man was swept along with his motorcycle on a seasonal stream in the Koral de Islamabad area on Wednesday while the heavy rasas of the monsoon battered parts of the country and generated fears of sudden floods.
The youth, identified as Mohsin, disappeared while trying to cross the overflowing Nullah. Rescue efforts were still underway until late at night as the river routes of rain in Rawalpindi and other regions increased.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeast of Baluchistan, Cashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy to very strong rain is expected in isolated locations. The department warned about more downpours today (Thursday), which could trigger floods in local currents and landslides in mountainous regions.
As a result, there is the risk of sudden floods in local currents and nullahs in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, DG Khan, northeastern Pun Galtistan and parts of Baluchistan, including Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Sibi, Lorealai, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Panjgur and Turbat.
Earth landslides caused by intense rain can alter traffic in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and GB.
Due to heavy rains, low areas in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar can face urban floods. Citizens are advised to remain cautious.
