- Windows 11 24h2 now has better security levels
- This is due to Microsoft improving the command sequence engine in the operating system
- As a result, computer pirates will be more difficult to discover and take advantage of exploits in Windows 11
Windows 11 has just moved to tighten security, but Microsoft has only applied this to the latest version, 24h2.
So, if you have not yet updated to Windows 11 24h2, perhaps because you have heard of some of the errors in this version of the desk operating system, it could now be a good time to finally press the trigger (especially since some new ingenious features have just arrived).
Neowin reports that Microsoft announced a switch in the predetermined command sequences engine on Windows 11, from JSCRIPT execution time to the new JScript9legacy.
If that sounds like Gobbledgook, the length and short is that this is the engine that JSCRIPT runs, Microsoft’s own version of Javascript to use within Windows (and Internet Explorer in the past).
Any application or web pages that JSCRIPT takes advantage of will be more performed with the new version, and security will receive an impulse: there will be less possibilities that holes appear in JScript in Windows 11 that the attackers could capitalize.
Microsoft explains: “JScript9legacy is designed to be more compatible with modern web standards, which helps mitigate the risk of command sequences between sites (XSS) and other web -based attacks.
“The new engine incorporates advanced safety features, such as the improved management of JavaScript objects and the strictest execution policies, which makes malicious scripts difficult to exploit the system.
“When replacing JScript.dll with jscript9legacy.dll, the operating system can defend itself better in a broader range of safety threats, ultimately providing a safer environment for users.”
ANALYSIS: Make the life more difficult for hackers
All this happens in the background, so you will not notice any difference in your desktop experience. However, it will be safer with Windows 11 24h2 now (without having to do anything).
As Neowin points out, Windows has been vulnerable to the exploits used by this motor sequences engine in the past: there was a failure that allowed the execution of remote code (an attacker who executes the code remotely on the Host’s PC for disastrous purposes) a year ago. That was naturally paveled, but having JSCRIPT with much stricter defenses by default, so it is less likely that new attacks are successful first, obviously it is worth it.
So, Windows 11 24h2 now has a stricter security than 23h2 by default, and this is a sufficient reason to consider an update if you have been backing. And I understand why you could also be cautious given the prevalence of some quite unpleasant (and strange) errors that affect those who made the leap at 24h2 (particularly the players). However, these technical problems have been established a bit, so it is perfectly possible that you are not found with any block of stumbling block at this time.
Of course, at some point, you will have to update to version 24h2 anyway: Microsoft recently made the mandatory update. In fact, Windows 11 25h2 is now on the horizon (packing the same security improvement we see here, naturally).
