Peshawar:
According to the officials, the landfills of the Tarbela dam were opened on Saturday after an increase in the water level of the deposit, while the Provincial Authority of Disaster Management (PDMA) issued an alert to warn about the possible floods along the banks of the Indo River.
In a statement, the PDMA warned that the release of water through the landfills would lead to an increase in the flow of the Indo River, and the discharge levels are expected to increase between 260,000 and 270,000 Cusec.
The Disaster Management Authority ordered the district administrations to remain alert and monitor local populations that live along the banks of the river.
The authorities warned that the increase in water flow could lead to flood conditions in low areas adjacent to the river.
Residents who live near the Indo River were advised, especially fishermen and livestock shepherds, who move to a safer land to avoid any risk represented by ascending waters.
The PDMA also urged the public to remain vigilant and to contact the line 1700 in case of an emergency or unpleasant situation.
To avoid any unfortunate incident, Vice President Muhammad Irfanullah Mehsud issued a warning, urging people to stay away from the shores of the Indo River. The district administration confirmed that the spills opened at 12:30 pm on Saturday.
A special attraction has been granted to Kund, Khairabad, Jabi Mandori, Shuangi, Mamakhel, Kahi and other surrounding areas: Avoiding the river is crucial to save lives.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) predicted possible floods and an increase in water flow in the Kabul and Indo River due to the rain from July 13 to 14.
According to NDMA, a low -level avalanche is expected on the Kabul River in Nowshera. An increase in the water level in the Swat River, Panjkoora and Nullahs is also expected due to the rains.
People who live in these areas are urged to adopt precautionary measures and avoid crossing streams and nullahs during the rains.
