PMD warns of heavy rains throughout the country


Islamabad:

The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) issued on Sunday an alertness of national alertness on strong rains in several districts of Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Baluchistan, which potentially caused flash floods, landslides and urban floods.

According to the last notice, heavy rains can cause floods in streams and nullahs in areas such as Murree, Garyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Khan race, Northestetern Punjist and Kashmir.

Heavy holes could also trigger landslides in mountainous regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Garyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially interrupting transport and access routes.

The PMD also warned that low urban areas in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar may experience urban floods.

Residents have been urged to take precautions and avoid unnecessary exposure.

Strong winds that accompany the rain can cause damage to the weakest infrastructure, including electricity posts, trees, vehicles and solar panels.

In a related development, the leader of the technical team of the NDMA and spokesman Dr. Tayyab Shah also issued a public advice that urges citizens to avoid crossing bridges, currents or roads flooded during periods of high water flow.

Speaking to a local news channel, he requested better cooperation between agencies to guarantee an effective emergency response.
