Hyderabad:
Despite a new prognosis of the monsoon spell by the Department of Meteorological as of July 15, there have been no practical measures to clean the drainage of rainwater, sewerage lines or gutters in Hyderabad. The main drains that pass through densely populated areas remain drowned in garbage, and the broken or missing protective walls have not been repaired around these drains, which caused a growing concern among citizens.
The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan had officially warned the Sindh government about the next rainy system, after which high -level meetings were held that instructed the commissioners, commissioners attached to local municipal agencies to prepare for possible urban floods. On July 10 he also issued a circular, instructing municipal organizations, including the municipal corporation of Hyderabad and several municipal corporations of the city to take precautionary measures. However, more than 48 hours have passed since the issuance of the letter, and not a single department has begun preparations at soil level.
Several important drains, including the long stretch from Liaquat Colony and Satar Shah Seryard to Memon Chowk and Tando Yusuf Hospital, serve as the main exit for wastewater in many congested neighborhoods. Other critical drains cross the old vegetable market and the Latifabad airport road. All these are now very obstructed with waste to the extent that their original form is barely recognizable. In some places, thick layers of garbage have been formed on the drains, and you can see the children walking on them sincerely.
The protective walls around these drains are broken at many points. In some places, the water level in the drain is equal to the surface of the road, resulting in past incidents of vehicles and children. On May 17 of this year, a seven -year -old boy, Raheel Afzal, fell into an open drain near the old vegetable market and drowned. Similarly, on June 11, two girls, 10 -year -old Rabeel and Parisha, 8, fell into a drainage discovered in the Jani Shah Mohalla area. Rabeel tragically lost his life.
Despite such tragedies, nor the administration of Hyderabad, or the Municipal Corporation, nor the respective TMA (municipal administrations of the city) have initiated repairs on the damaged protective walls of these dangerous drains. The union committees in question also remain silent spectators, despite receiving RS 1.2 million per month in government subsidies, of which only one portion for salaries and public services invoices is used, while the rest remains useless for the needs of the community of the community such as drainage maintenance. Irronicity, every year, the government of Sindh and local organizations have emergency emergency meetings and announce rain preparation plans, hosting the thousands of rupees of the rupees in the budget of the rupees. In some places, superficial drain cleaning is carried out for the sake of advertising.
However, the reality is that not a single drain has been cleaned enough to make a visible difference in water flow. Supposedly, false bills are presented under the appearance of drainage cleaning every year, and public funds are embezzled, however, no institution or bureaucrat has been responsible for this recurrent negligence.
