- “Until” 8 years of software updates for Hisense TVs
- It only applies to televisions that run the TV Smart Vida platform
- The majority of Hisense televisions sold in the US
When you spend a lot of money on a new television, or even small dollars, you want to make sure your purchase will last: while we tend to change our phones every year or two, most people stay with the same television for almost a decade. Therefore, it is great to see Hisense promising to deliver eight years of software updates to his televisions.
A bit.
Here there are some ambiguity, and the announcement is also specific to Hins’ televisions that run on the Hisense life operating system. In the US, most of the televisions of Hisense execute another software: where there are currently 11 life models that appear on the USA. UU.
So what is really promising here and how does it compare?
What is “for” for “?
The news comes through Flatpanelshd, but Hins actually made his promise earlier this year in a press release. According to the firm, it was “to establish a new industry standard by offering up to eight years of updates for its intelligent television visualization platform.”
He continued explaining that for eight years of updates, it meant:
- Improved security: regular updates protect personal data and maintain the integrity of the platform into a digital panorama that changes rapidly.
- Application compatibility: Transmission and entertainment services can be maintained currently with the latest characteristics and functionality.
- Performance increases: It will surely benefit from new features and refinements that improve their visualization experience over time.
- Longevity and Value: The useful life of its TV will be extended accordingly without the need to undergo hardware updates.
And that is good, but, of course, the devil is in the detail: the term “update program of up to 8 years” was used by the vice president of life products, such bone, and “up to 8 years” is not the same as eight years for everyone.
Hisense is basically correct when he says that he is establishing a new standard of the industry, because his eight years are longer than the seven years offered by Samsung on his Tizen televisions and the four updates of webos promised by LG (which basically equals five years of updates if he buys a television in the same year that is launched).
But as I mentioned earlier, there are warnings here: it will be applied much more widely in Europe than in the US. UU., We do not know what sets could obtain less than eight years of updates, and does not specify whether it applies only to new 2025 televisions or also to older models.
Even so, it is something that we are happy to see the company to commit: any improvement to ensure that the intelligent TV side of today’s models lasts, as well as the image creation side, is welcome.
